Exclusive to Spellbound Book Art

This is a brand new book folding concept and is exclusive to Spellbound Book Art - you saw it here first! It's my own unique made-for-purpose book, which I wrote and designed myself specifically for those who prefer to keep their 'reading books' and their 'book sculptures' separate!

It contains a short story, spread across the first and last two pages of the book, which will be left unfolded so that you can easily read it if you'd like to. You can also read it here.

The rest of the pages were also written by myself, but they contain around 6,000 words of complete nonsense, streamed directly from my subconscious, which are repeated throughout the book to create the appearance of a 'real' book. If you want to read this too you can do so here (at the bottom of the page, underneath the main story), but be warned - it is utter gibberish, and not for the faint-hearted! It does contain proper sentences and paragraphs, but if you're expecting a 'cohesive plot' you're going to be sorely disappointed!  If, on the other hand, you are amused by things which are 'out of context' and absurd, you may find it vaguely entertaining!

Why was this book created?

The purpose of this unique book is to give you the best of both worlds - a beautiful book sculpture, folded into something which has the appearance of a real book (and does indeed contain a short story and other words which were written by an 'author'), but using an object which was designed for this very purpose rather than a real book written by somebody else.

Besides, from a personal perspective, my need for order and repetition makes these a very appealing option to work with as it creates far more structure and sameness for me when I am in the production stage!

Who is it for?

The majority of people I've heard discussing book sculptures are perfectly happy for a regular book to be folded, but I've come across a few who cannot bear the idea of an actual book being folded or altered in any way. 

Whilst I always ensure that no paper or text is ever removed from any of the books I use, I completely respect the fact that some people have a different relationship with books, and find the object itself just as valuable, if not more so, than the content and meaning of the words within it. This is why I wanted to come up with a solution that enables such people to comfortably own their very own book sculptures too, without the uncomfortable feeling that a 'real' book has been altered in some way! Ironically, it tends to be die-hard book lovers who hold this view, but they are likely to be the kind of people who would most like to own a book themed piece of art... so, now they can!

These made-for-purpose book sculptures are of course available to absolutely everyone, not just those mentioned above, and I use them by default for the majority of my book folding projects. It's entirely up to you which book type you'd prefer your sculpture to be crafted out of though, so you are welcome to request a pre-loved or one of your own books if you’d prefer.
